 3rd Breadalbane (H) LGE 5 - 1

Match Report

2004’s Match Report - Sunday 3 December 2017 at Strathearn Community Campus

Crieff Juniors 04s welcomed Breadalbane down to Crieff this morning for a league fixture with the game being played on the 3G pitch to ensure we played after the disruption over the last few weeks, and typically with the weather we could probably have played on the grass!!

Crieff: Campbell, Myles, Scott, Brock, Luti, Armstrong, Allen, Hall, Whitelock, Graham, Lowson. Subs: Condie, Mullens, Peters, Bell, Grant

The game begun with the visitors making the 1st chance with the Crieff defence being caught out with a simple ball over the top, fortunately Crieff recovered to clear the danger but was an early wake up call for Crieff.
Crieff slowly began to settle into the game and started pinning the visitors back into their own half. A corner was won on the right hand side and the ball was floated to the back post where Hall guided the header back beyond the keeper to open the scoring. Crieff dominated from here with Allen and Hall breaking up the play from Breadalbane but the final ball was letting Crieff down with chances being at a minimum.

After 25mins a double substitution brought almost immediate joy for Crieff, with the ball being played down the left involving Grant and Lowson, when the ball was cut back the inrushing Bell fired a shot just wide of the target with his 1st touch of the game. But Grant then pulled the game away from Breadalbane with a devastating 2 minute spell setting up 2 goals. Firstly he worked a good position down the left hand side and a delightful ball into the middle of goal was buried by Graham. Straight from kick off the ball was won back by Crieff and again good work by Grant allowed Lowson to make it 3. With the half time whistle close, Crieff were awarded a free kick , 35 yards out, which Scott hit with the keeper parrying the ball, Brock and Myles reacted quickly with the first effort being saved and pushed onto the post which came back out along the goal line and Brock managed to get the finishing touch ahead of Myles.

Half Time: Crieff Juniors 4 Breadalbane 0

A good first half which Crieff dominated with a lot of good football being played at times. The team were warned of thinking the game was over as the previous fixture the half time score was the same and we ended up hanging on after stopping playing.

The second half started very scrappy with Breadalbane coming more into the game. However Crieff delivered a blow to them when good play from Graham, released Bell into the box and the keeper making a good block but from the loose ball Bell buried for number 5.
Almost immediately Breadalbane reduced the deficit, a corner was played in and hit off a Crieff foot for an own goal. A raft of changes were made by both sides and positional changes were also made by Crieff which made the play a bit more disjointed, but credit to the side they kept working hard off the ball and created a few more chances, with Graham unlucky crashing a curling effort off the post, but there were to be no further goals.

Full time: Crieff Juniors 5 Breadalbane 1

Well done to the side having not played for a few weeks, we are beginning to slowly see the benefit of the 2nd nights training with the boys looking to get the ball down and play a lot more and have more structure to their game.

 September 2017
 24th Kirkcaldy Inter (A) SCP 0 - 7

Match Report

Buoyed by the last 2 results the 04s travelled to Kirkcaldy yesterday morning looking to carry on our Scottish Cup run, facing Kirkcaldy Inter. With performances having been good the last 2 weeks we started the same side for the third game in a row.

Hoping to emulate the performance from the last round we asked the boys to again play at a high tempo and press the opposition when they had the ball, for the first 15 mins we were getting a little joy with this but without creating a chance, the boys were trying to get the ball down and make passes which was encouraging, strangely though the defence seemed unsure of themselves today and they were not working as a unit. Kirkcaldy were looking too punish the defensive frailties and duly did when slack marking down the right hand side allowed the Kirkcaldy striker to make ground down their left and get a shot away from the corner of the box which ended in the net. Hopefully this would wake the boys up but again we had plenty of ball but we were not keeping the ball in the final third well and losing possession, it was all individual from the team rather than working as a group. The 2nd goal again came from allowing players too get into areas of the box unchallenged and not defending properly. A few heads could be seen to drop, in between these mistakes defensively it was encouraging to see us trying to play a lot of decent play in the middle of the park but we kept losing the ball cheaply and being forced onto the back foot quickly. Disaster struck 5 mins before half time when we lost 2 goals in a minute again poor marking and lack of communication lead to the 3rd and the 4th followed quickly from the resultant kick off from losing possession and again no challenges being made and Kirkcaldy added a fourth by simply running through the middle of us. Fortunately for us the referee may have been feeling sorry for us as he blew for half time early.

Half time:
Kirkcaldy Inter 4 Crieff Juniors 0

The 2nd half started better for Crieff with the first 10 minutes being how we should have played in the 1st half, we were sharper in the challenge the ball was being played effectively from the middle of the park and we were starting to push Kirkcaldy back slightly but we couldn't create a chance to give ourselves a bit of hope. With us beginning to ask questions we lost a 5th goal through poor marking and nobody following the runners, a ball down Kirkcaldy left was played straight across goal to the inrushing striker to have the simple job of tapping into the empty net. Any hope of a comeback went with that goal, the game became a bit scrappy with a few late challenges from both teams. Kirkcaldy were always causing us problems when they were going forward and other than a couple of chances kept us very quiet going forward. 2 goals in the closing minutes from Kirkcaldy made it a day to forget for Crieff. Well done to Kirkcaldy Inter and good luck in the next round.

Final Score:
Kirkcaldy Inter 7 Crieff Juniors 0

A bad day for the team, the midfielders Hall, Allen and Armstrong kept fighting all game but far too often we gave away possession cheaply and didn't work hard enough to win it back.

 10th DJ Maroons (A) SCP 4 - 1

Match Report

After a disappointing 2 league games to start the season for the 04s, yesterday saw the team make the trip to Rosyth to face Duloch Juniors Maroons in the opening round of the Scottish cup. With regular keeper Sterry sidelined with long term injury, Luti again was willing to fill the gap in goal, although he's a defender he put his hand up when we asked for a goalkeeper and the rest of the boys appreciate his willingness to help the side out.

After the last 2 games we spoke before the game about how the side started the games slowly and allowed Jeanfield and Pitfour to dictate the games by not pressing and chasing opponents down, yesterday the boys came flying out at Duloch, the boys never allowed them time on the ball and played at a high tempo all over the pitch. Duloch looked to push us back but the midfield duo of Hall and Allen were constantly breaking the attacks up and looking to drive forward and feed balls for Lowson and Graham to work off. The boys had settled well but we just couldn't find the right through ball to create any openings. Then disaster struck after 15 minutes, a through ball looked to be under control but a communication breakdown in defence allowed the Duloch striker to nip in and open the scoring, was a little harsh on the Crieff boys as we hadn't looked under any threat up until then. The question was asked how we would respond and they didn't allow their heads to go down, the high tempo remained and again we harried all over the park and we duly got our reward. Graham picked up a ball wide on the left, he cut in and skipped past a defender and unleashed a shot from the edge of the box that rifled high into the net. A change was made to the formation with Styles coming on and Graham dropping back into midfield, it was a move that worked well with Graham winning a tackle in the centre circle, he got the ball out his feet quickly and played a lovely ball upto Lowson who used his pace to cause the defence problems, the defender held him up on the edge of the box but wasn't ready for Lowson cutting inside and curling a beauty passed the despairing dive of the keeper. With the boys having done brilliantly to come from behind they almost threw away the good work straight from kick off, turning off momentarily a simple through ball allowed Duloch in and only a good block by Luti kept the lead intact.

Half time
Duloch Juniors Maroons 1 Crieff Juniors 2

The effort in the 1st half was praised and the team were asked to do the same again. Duloch started the 2nd half on the front foot and were looking too pin us back. The defence were holding firm and clearing their lines well, wasn't always pretty but mostly effective. The workrate remained but like the 1st half we struggled too create many openings, relying on a tight defence and hardworking midfield to keep the lead. Duloch had a couple of close efforts with 1 just dropping the right side of the post for us and a low hit shot across the face of the goal where luckily for Crieff evaded the Duloch strikers looking for a tap in. We rotated the team well, the workrate was taking its toll which was understandable. With 15 minutes to go Duloch changed formation pushing more bodies forward looking for an equaliser, a few last gasp challenges and blocks from the defenders kept us in front as we came under a lot of pressure from Duloch. Then another ball was won in the centre of the park was played up to a Lowson who again ran at the defence and managed to get a shot away that trickled into the bottom corner to give Crieff a bit of breathing space with 10 minutes to go. Duloch never gave up and kept pushing forward but the ball just wouldn't break for them today, another Duloch attack was broken up from Crieff in the centre circle, Graham managed to evade 2 challenges before hitting a shot high into the net from 20 yards to seal a fantastic win for the boys.

Was a fantastic win for the boys today, the workrate right through the team was superb and 2 goals apiece for Lowson and Graham rewarded their efforts but Allen in the centre of the pitch played superbly he broke up numerous Duloch moves and looked to drive forward whenever he could. The 2 centre halves Scott and Brock marshalled the defence and repelled attack after attack in the 2nd half. A big thank you to the parents today for getting everyone to Rosyth. We wish Duloch all the best for the season and like to thank them for a fantastic spread of food put on by them which was greatly appreciated by all of the Crieff side.
